Keeping Up With Kim! #EPU40

Tell me about your EPU story—how did you get here?

In spring of 2016, I began interning at EPU while finishing my last undergraduate semester at Fresno State. I shadowed Stacy Ritchey and instantly fell in love with the interaction between the Early Childhood Specialist and child. You could feel the encouragement and love that Stacy had for the child. The bond that they shared was very special and unique. During that moment I knew EPU was a place I wanted to be a part of. Months later, I heard of an Early Childhood Specialist job opening at EPU. I applied and I am very fortunate to have been offered a position.

How long have you been affiliated with EPU?

I have been working for EPU since October 2016, but I feel as though I have been a part of the EPU family for many years.

What’s your favorite part about EPU? What’s your favorite EPU memory?

My favorite part about EPU is walking in the building every morning. You instantly feel positive energy and hospitality from all the employees. Another quality I admire about EPU is the enormous amount of support they offer to families.  My favorite memory at EPU was during my internship. I was working with a child and they began to make progress, it was extremely rewarding.  Knowing that I was a part of the child’s developmental growth was very powerful and gratifying.

What’s the best part of being an early childhood specialist?

My favorite part of being an ECS is getting to know the child and families and developing a connection. I believe developing a positive relationship with the families allows them to trust me when working with their child. Coming to EPU as a parent can be overwhelming and building a strong foundation with families can cultivate a strong relationship with the child.

What’s in the cards for your future? What are your plans for EPU moving forward?   I plan to continue to build positive relationships with the families and children by providing support and teaching families how to strengthen their child’s development.

What has EPU taught you?

EPU has taught me to be compassionate towards every family and child I come across.  Every child and family has their own story and is on their own path. With the support of EPU struggles and challenges for families can become a little lighter.
