Meet: Joyous Janice + Jaime! #EPU40

What brought you to EPU?

We were sent here from CVRC when our son, Jaime, was diagnosed with Down syndrome. I am so glad that EPU is here for us.

Tell us about your child?

Jaime is a fantastic 2-year-old—he’s so smart. It’s impossible to be mad around him. He makes anyone who sees him happy. Jaime loves almost any music, dancing, dinosaurs, books and game shows. He loves it when people are happy! We so look forward to watching him become a man.

What is your experience with EPU?

Since I had never been around anyone with any disability, I didn’t know what to expect.  We have learned a lot—I always have a question for somebody. We really enjoy being here. I wish we could still come to EPU for classes after he turns 3 years old, but we plan to stay in the EPU family by attending events, family faculty, etc.

How has EPU affected your family life?

We have learned so many things, like how to help Jaime move his body when he was younger, how to sign, how to teach him life skills and so much more. Our whole family needs EPU. There is so much knowledge and experience here.

What hopes do you have for your child?

We want Jaime to be very involved in school, athletics, with his family and friends. We want him to do his very best and be the best person he knows how to be. We are very pleased with his progress thus far.

Can you share some advice for other parents?

Don’t worry. Be patient. Ask questions. And always remember, you were the one who was chosen to be your child’s parent. How great is that!?
