Tell me about your EPU story—how did you get here?
I first heard about EPU when I was doing an Internship with Valley Children’s Hospital as part of their “Child Life” program. One of the EPU staff had come by the Hospital to visit a family and provide support. I became very interested in the services that EPU provided to families and did some research about the organization. I applied when they had an opening for an Early Interventionist, was hired and have been a part of the wonderful EPU family for over 25 years.
How long have you been affiliated with EPU?
I have had the opportunity to work in several capacities during my years here with EPU. I am currently with our “Assessment Center for Children” as the “Help me Grow” Community Liaison. I have had the privilege of working with families directly as well as being a support to our wonderful staff and agency in addition to building and strengthening relationships with community partners, to provide the best possible outcomes for children and families.
Tell us about your family?
I am a Mom to four wonderful adult sons who have also been part of the EPU family as well, volunteering or providing support, alongside me.
What’s your favorite part about EPU?
Experiencing EPU, whether it be as a staff member or as a family receiving services, means being immersed in a culture that supports the uniqueness of every child and family’s individual journey. My own family was fortunate to receive support from our Family Resource Center around the development of a “504” plan and accommodations for my youngest son in his school setting.
What’s in the cards for your future?
In thinking about the future I imagine myself continuing my journey here with the people and agency so near and dear to my heart, supporting the mission of EPU “To strengthen and empower children and families facing extraordinary medical, developmental and parenting challenges.”
What has EPU taught you?
EPU has taught me the power of offering a smile, a kind word and having an open heart!
